The mid-century ranch style home at 6 Turkey Hill South in Westport is a surprise from outside to inside.  Sunlight pours into every window, fireplaces warm living room and den, a half covered deck is large enough to serve as a 3 season outdoor room. Nine varieties of fruit tree blossom pink, white and lavender making the front yard look like fairyland. When the current owner saw the home, her nine year old looked around judiciously and said, “We could live here, Mom. It’s a happy house.” And she was right.
Eastern sunlight in the morning, western all afternoon – an easy-going comfort to it all.  The owner says,  “There was a 2 room office for me so I could write my novels at home, a whole other apartment-like space on the lower level (living room, bedroom, bath, with two doors and four windows) that would in teenage years become a mecca for friends and a means for a single mom and growing daughter to find the perfect mix of togetherness and privacy.”
Still modest by Westport standards this house will probably be replaced by something bigger and grander, whether torn down or rebuilt…times change and home-and-hearth-needs morph with the changes. But the spirit of the land will remain – maples and oaks for fall foliage, fruit trees to blossom in spring – garden swing for every season – the deer and wild turkeys still venturing out to nibble the fruit trees and seedlings. And who knows, maybe the shed will become a playhouse once again for a new generation of laughing children. Fortunately for the new owners, the amazing convenience of the location will remain. 1 Mile to the Train:  A commuter’s dream, at the end of our road is the Greens Farm train station. There’s a tiny post office, too, friendly and uncrowded. Shops and services abound on the nearby Post Road (another boon for youngsters not yet able to drive) and there are three beaches five minutes away by car. The Longshore Country Club is a gift to residents from the town. Golf, sailing, ice skating, swimming all available to all who live here.  The elementary school is a block away, middle and high schools are less than half a mile away from the front door. Westport: Westport is a quirky, surprising small town with a bohemian history, a cosmopolitan sophistication and an easy-going, beach town vibe. Not quite as proper as Greenwich or Darien, but comfortable with its quirkiness and pleased with its own freeform spirit.
